Recycling is something we should all be taking seriously. With copious amounts of plastic ending up in the worlds waters, landscapes being ruined by litter and animals and sea creatures facing extinction, it’s imperative that we all do our part to look after our planet. This means that we must take recycling and waste disposal seriously.
Recycling or, moreover, a lack of recycling, has been an issue for a long time. While more and more companies and families are recycling every day, many are still unaware of the severe consequences that we are facing.
Creating Awareness
In a bid to encourage more residents to recycle, Copeland Council is using striking images on the side of its waste trucks.
The designs are part of the one-year celebration of the council’s kerbside recycling service. During its first year, residents recycled an impressive 3,354 tonnes of plastic waste through the scheme – the equivalent of 650 elephants!
Therefore, the designs on the waste trucks are of an eye-catching elephant theme, thanking the residents for their environmental commitment and highlighting the need for recycling to continue.
The council also installed an impressive baby elephant sculpture made by artist Sue Jackson and art students at Lakes College from waste materials, continuing with the elephant theme.
The Copland Council hope that in seeing these striking designs on the streets the residents will be encouraged to exceed the first year’s efforts long into the future.
We can all make a difference
We can all make a difference, not just at home, but in our places of work too. There are countless efforts that we can make in our offices to ensure that we not only recycle properly but that we use products made from recycled materials too. This way, we can reduce the waste that our offices produce and the impact that we have on the environment and, perhaps most importantly, inspire others to do the same.
One company helping us to do this is Pilot. They have launched a new product, the B2P gel pen, that is made from recycled drinking water bottles. The Pilot B2P (Bottle to Pen) is not only a dream to write with, but it’s design, which reflects that of a water bottle, helps get the message across, demonstrates that you are making an effort and inspires others too.
