It can be easy to lose tracks of how many glasses of Champagne you have put away, but if you want to avoid embarrassing yourself make sure you know your limits. Don’t try to keep up with everyone else and always make sure you stay at least two drinks behind the boss (or clients), that way you can avoid being the most inebriated one in the room and avoid saying or doing something you might regret. If you start to feel that things are getting away from you, grab a glass of water and head outside for a few minutes of fresh air.
We all like to gossip, especially after a few glasses of mulled wine. But don’t forget, although you might think your colleagues are your best friends on a night out, you don’t always know where their loyalties lie and something you say might come back to haunt you in the long run. Stick to safe topics and avoid commenting on any colleagues or work-related topics.
Check the dress code and check any wardrobe decisions with a colleague. There’s nothing worse than turning up to a room full of people and feeling out of place. While the occasional comedy outfit might be OK, remember that you are at a Christmas do with a room full of colleagues and senior management, make sure what you are wearing doesn’t reflect badly on you.
Obviously, it’s antisocial to be on your phone constantly, and we’d like you to think that most of you are aware of that and will keep your phones safely away in your bags or pockets. We all want to document our nights out and will likely reach for our phones to take photos and videos of the festivities. Just remember not to get too insta-happy when you are a few drinks in. It’s probable that colleagues and acquaintances will have a scan through your posts, so make sure they don’t find a stream of photos of you enjoying the party a bit too much.
Some of us are organised and fortunate enough to have our office parties on a Friday, so turning up for work isn’t an issue. However, if you are one of the unlucky ones who have to go to work the next day, make sure you are able to perform. Calling in sick is absolutely out of the question, so make sure you pace yourself, drink plenty of water before bed and if you need to schedule any meetings, make sure you book them in the afternoon so you will have a chance to feel more normal.
If you are feeling a bit worse for wear and discover that you are out of paper, or the copy machine is out of toner, we are here to help. Give us a call and one of our friendly team will make sure you get everything you need, our delivery driver will even put it away for you so you can hide in a dark corner and get some well-deserved rest.
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
