Buxton Water Bottles to be Made From 100% Recycled Plastic

Multinational food giant Nestle has recently announced plans to make all packaging in its Buxton water brand from 100 per cent recycled materials by the year 2021.

They plan to make the entire range of water bottles from 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The new bottles will remain 100% recyclable.

Nestle is aware of the impact that single-use plastic has on the environment and is happy to make this change to demonstrate its commitments to sustainability. They claim that the high-quality recycled material retains the same properties at PET resulting in a product that is durable, lightweight, resilient and still 100% recyclable.

Limited Supply

There are still challenges that stand in the way of Nestle achieving their goal. The material they use has to be high-quality food-grade which is in limited supply in the UK. Therefore, it is likely that they will have to resort to sourcing their materials from outside the country, at least for now.

Nestle is currently working with industry partners, non-governmental organisations and government to improve the national recycling rate, supporting the UK-wide deposit return scheme and engaging with consumers about their recycling to help make a circular economy for plastics a reality.

By 2025, Nestle expects that all of its packaging will be recyclable or reusable and that none of it will end up in landfill.

Shaping the Future

Nestle is aware that, as a packaged goods company, they have a duty to help address the amount of plastic produced in their industry and a collective responsibility to help create a more sustainable future.

Thankfully, huge companies such as Nestle are starting to understand the impact their products have on the environment and are beginning to take responsibility for their actions. With companies such as Nestle, McDonald’s, Starbucks and many more starting to reduce their single-use plastic production perhaps, one day, we can win the war on plastic.
